Introduction

Situated in the depths of darkest Lincolnshire, The Griffin Inn is located in the delightful village of Irnham, 7 miles from Bourne to the east, 12 miles north of Stamford, 10 miles south of Grantham and 5 miles east of the A1 (Colsterworth junction). The centuries old country inn is on a fairly steep hill with two main access points, one from the main road, the other from the drive used to access the large gravel car park.

We offer 4 en-suite rooms, all on the first floor accessed by a staircase. Breakfast utilises the best of local organic and sustainable ingredients we can find, we are happy to accommodate all dietary requirements wherever possible.

The building is grade II listed and as such has some uneven floors.

Pre-Arrival

You can plan your journey to us simply by going to www.transportdirect.info, enter your post code and ours, NG33 4JG to get directions by car or public transport. Grantham station is on the main east coast railway line and is only 10 miles north of us with a taxi rank right outside the station, Stamford railway station is some 12 miles south with taxis available there as well. Our post code can also be used in your Sat Nav to locate us. The pavement on the street leading to the B&B is paved, the car park is to the side and rear of the building is graveled with a tarmac drive from the road across the front of the building to the car park.

Guest will be asked for an estimated time of arrival at booking to enable assisted welcome and registration.

Car Parking and Arrival

The car park is accessed via a tarmac drive from the main road across the front of the building which houses one of the main access points, approximately 15ft from the car park which has a gravel surface. There is a timed external floodlight which comes on during opening hours in the evening.

There is a normal size single step down into a covered porch to access the front door which is 750mm/29.5ins wide.

Assistance can be given with luggage.

Welcome Area

Guests enter through an L shaped hallway, which is a level wooden floor throughout, leading to a signposted bar area where they are asked to register. There are 2 steps down into the bar area which provides ample seating and tables and carpeted throughout the room.

All areas are well lit.

Guests will be shown to their rooms appropriate dining areas and facilities and offered a table reservation for an evening meal if required. In addition, breakfast requirements will be checked accordingly.

Bedrooms

All 4 bedrooms are located on the first floor accessed by a large wide staircase with banister, the stairs and landing are carpeted.

Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Bedside lamps are also in each room. All of our bedrooms offer the following: Lighting as above, wooden floors with rugs, all bedding is non-feather, widescreen digital television with remote control, subtitles, and audio description facilities.

Each room has an iPod docking station alarm clock, Dolce Gusto Coffee Machine, hair dryer, razor adaptor plug, fresh fruit and bottled water.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, 2 with baths with mixer tap fittings, one with a shower only and one with a walk in shower and pedestal bath, The rooms with baths only have them located on one and two tier plinths.

Both showers have a normal step up into them with non slip shower mats located within the shower.

All the baths and sinks have normal domestic type fittings.

A range of bathroom products are available in each bathroom including soap, shower gel and shampoo.

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

All public areas, halls, stairs, landing, are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights.

There is short pile carpet on the stairs and landing.

There is a continuous flight of thirteen steps to the first floor with a handrail on one side.

Public Areas – Lounge

The lounge is used as our primary dining area and split level connected with a 2 step gangway access between the areas, the upper level is a hard wood floor with the lower level being tiled.

There is a double-sided log burner.

Lighting is provided by wall lights, natural lighting and table candles during service times. The rooms are furnished with dinner tables, chairs and carvers.

Public Toilet

Due to the size, nature and listed status of the building there are no disabled toilets.

There is a two stall ladies facility located off the bar and is carpeted throughout.

There is a single stall gentlemen’s facility with a trough urinal located off the bar and has a tiled floor and floor covering in the stall. Both toilet areas have small steps up into the facilities across an uneven carpeted area.

Dining Room

The dining room is located on the ground floor immediately right of the front door access.

It has a wooden floor and furnished with a number of tables, chairs and carvers.

It is illuminated with wall lights controlled by a dimmer switch and candles during service times.

We are able to cater for varying dietary requirements. Please advise us when making a booking.

Breakfast is served as opposed to self service

Garden

There is a large garden to the front, side and rear of the building.

The front garden is furnished with 5 picnic tables with large parasols and sits on sloped access areas.

The rear beer garden is normally used for special events. It is relatively flat but does have a stream running through the rear border line.

There are a number of flower beds in all garden areas

Additional Information

The proprietors are both members of the British Institute of Innkeeping

We have a set of evacuation procedures – someone will come to your room and assist you with evacuation.

We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.

The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS is 10 miles away and the nearest Doctor’s surgery is 2 miles away. Please let us know if you require further information about these.

Free WiFi Internet access is available, you will need a network password which is available for our customers.

Future Plans

Due to the nature and age of the building and its listed status, there are no plans to carry out any further internal works apart for a small amount of remedial repair works and improvements as a result of operational needs, legal requirements or customer feedback/requests
